I am going on my first cruise on the Miracle in November. How comfortable or uncomfortable are the beds on the Carnival ships? I think in the past I have read somewhere that people were asking for an egg crate or something similar because the beds were so hard. Does anyone know if this is the case? Thanks to all who respond!

We did the Miracle on 9/5/04 and the beds were very comfortable. Mind you, I sleep on a waterbed, so I always have to get used to a regular bed when I travel. The comforters on top were so thick and plush! Very nice touch.

I looooove the beds on carnival. And I've been on 5 different ones. And I love the pillows! Royal Caribbean's beds are not so comfortable. eeek.

Thanks to you all for your responses. Glad to hear about the comfort!!! Judging by your responses, it must have been on the other cruise lines that I read about the bad beds! I can go a couple of nights with a hard bed but more than that I get sore and miserable! Then again, maybe we will be so exhausted from the activities, I wouldn't have noticed so much! Can't wait for my first cruise experience!!!!!

Let me add that Carnival Miracle is a new ship as well, something like 9 months old. I also sailed Carnival Legend, her twin sister when she was about 2 years old. At first I thought the beds might be a bit hard for my taste. But I think I slept better on those 8 nights than I did in my own bed!

Also, Choosing a Spirit class ship which is what Carnival Miracle is, is a wise choice. It was the Spirit class ships that propelled Carnival out of the "party boat" atmosphere. They are well layed out, passenger flow is no challenge. If you have to get to the back of the ship, it's not like you have take the front elevator to the top, walk the entire lenght of the ship which over over 900 feet long and take another elevator to the top. :nono

Enjoy your first cruise. Don't go with expectations. Just enjoy everyday. Things won't be perfect, but then again, tell me what in life is?

Wishing you calm seas, and blue skies. :thumb

I found Ryal Caribbean beds to be very comfortable? What ship were you on? It is especially easy to fall asleep on ships because of their rolling motions.

Thanks Ken 2001 and I chose the Miracle for the very reasons you laid out (not to mention that my TA had a group going at unbelieveable prices!) Anyway, we booked a balcony cabin on the main deck and have since been upgraded 3 levels to the Verandah deck still a balcony cabin but up front. Being a first time cruiser, I'm still not sure what good a 3 level upgrade really gives you????
You have any ideas on that???
Thanks all, you have all been so helpful!!! What a wonderful website!

I'm not to good with upgrade information, but, I don't want to concern you, but up in front, you tend to feel the motion of the vessel more so. :lol I mean, your not going to go flipping and flopping all over the place, but again, for me, I find the motion quite relaxing. If you suspect that you might be sensative to motion sickness, take any medications at least three hours before you set sail.

If you can, see if you can get a cabin somewhere abouts in the middle.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but my last bed on the Conquest was a sinker. However, this was just an isolated thing, plus the Conquest had already been sailing for about 2 years when this happenned.

The bed thing did NOT ruin my vacation, and I should have said something to the stewart but didn't.
My other bed experiences were excellent.

Ken,
I was afraid of that! My TA made that comment about being up front (that was before the upgrade when we were mid ship) Now, she hasn't said a thing since we got put up front about the movement.....but I am concerned!! The only time I've ever been on the ocean, deep sea fishing at 12 yrs. old, I got soooooo sick......I'm going tomorrow to get a patch from the Dr. Do the patches work better than anything else?????Please advise and thanks for all your help!!!!

coffeecups...somtimes it just beez that way :lol Any new bed can be defective.

Tina..I'll be specific as I can...for me and my wife.. the patches do work just fine. We apply them behind the ears three hours before we set sail and one patch lasts for three days.

Some methods work better than others being we are all different. For some, the bracelets work using pressure points on your wrist. For others, bonine might work.

Another motion sickness remedy are garlic pills. That's works fine for some.

But with all of these methods, you still want to take something three hours before sail-away. Gotta get the medication into your system. If your stomach is getting a bit woozy, try and get a hold of crackers, like saltines and ginger ale. Last but not least, there's the ships doctor. He gives you a shot as a last resort. A visit to the ship's infirmary can be a bit costly, especially after hours.

Hope this helps!! :thumb

I haven't had a problem with any of my Carnival beds. In fact if anyone wants to pay my way, I'll do a survey of the beds on the rest of the fleet. :)

Have fun on your first cruise tinaparrothead! (From one Tina to another)
Hope you LOVE cruising as much as the rest of us do.

I really don't think that the motion in front of the ship is that much, unless the ship goes through some very rough seas or a big storm. This past summer, on the conquest, I was on the lido deck up front, about 5 rooms from the front. Didn't feel any motion. However, when four of us were on the aft of thel ido deck, we were a little surprised to feel some vibrations (not motion) from the ship.

Like a few good people suggested, take along some motion sickness medication just in case.

ps my wife had always been afraid of motion sickness, but she has never gotten it yet, even on the smaller boats like the Celebration and Holiday--and even on commodore in the gulf during a tropical depression.

keep thinking fun, fun, sun, food, music, food, wind, pretty things to look at, food, etc, etc,

:lol coffeecups.

I compare being in the middle as opposed to being in the front as far as feeling more motion, Whenever I'm in the main theater in way way up front, I can feel the seat drop out form under my butt, then a few seconds later, I feel like the incredible hulk is about to launch me up outta my seat! :lol

I won't get those feelings like that around midships. :nono

Vibrations? Well, on Golden Princess, there is a lovely theater way in the back, I did feel some vibrations, very very minimal. Didn't surprise me though considering the size of those three gigantic Azumithing Azipods propelling a 109,000 ton cruise ship through the waters! :grin I forgave her.

We sailed the Miracle in April and the beds were very comfortable (the pillows too). I thought the beds on the ship were more comfortable then my bed at home.

I have to jump in and be a party pooper... DH and I just got back from a week on the Miracle, and the ONLY big complaint I had was about the bed... We just did not sleep comfortably at all! Don't know why, it didn't feel unusually hard but we woke up stiff and ache-y every morning. (And NO, it wasn't due to any extracurricular activities!!) The pillows were extremely "poofy," DH wished they were flatter as he likes to fold them in half to sleep on. Also, the comforter was wierd-- it was like two goosedown comforters zipped into one big blanket, and it was extremely hot... I'm one of those people who needs to have something covering me when I sleep, even if it's warm, and this blanket was just too incredibly hot. Given sailing to the Caribbean, a lighter blanket would have been much more appropriate.

Come to think of it, maybe it WASN'T the bed itself that made me not sleep so well- maybe it was the comforter! Anyway, you will have a wonderful time whether or not the bed is exactly to your specifications-- the ship is AWESOME!!
