Yesterday, we took PizzaBoy to the Symphony for a children's concert. The conductor was marvelous, and explained to the audience how music can sometimes be thought of as dialogue, and used a portion of the attached video to illustrate. It stars Sid Caesar and Nanette Fabray, and I encourage watching it until the end (about 6 minutes). Turn your volume up!

How refreshing to see something like this! I miss the likes of Sid Caesar and Nanette Fabrey...it would have been interesting to see this with Imogene Coca as well.

How did PizzaBoy enjoy the concert? I imagine he loved it!

He loved the concert, Mary Ann. I took him to one last year and he enjoyed it then, so we purchased tickets for this year's concert once they became available. He has a wonderful ear for music and is able to pick out the instruments that are playing. He marveled at the violins this year.

The program was:
Mozart, First movement (Allegro molto) from Symphony No. 40 in G Minor, K.550
Beethoven, Overture to Fidelio
Verdi, Prelude to Act I of La traviata
Tchaikovsky, First movement (Allegro moderato-Moderato assai) from Violin Concerto in D, Opus 35 (featuring a magnificent performance by a young lady who was the winner of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Youth Concerts Concerto Competition)
Beethoven, First movement (Allegro con brio) from Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Opus 67

Mom and Dad enjoyed it, too. There is nothing like live music.

I'm certain that "Mom and Dad" enjoyed themselves all the more because their son loved it!

La Traviata is my favorite opera - I'm always pleased when it's included as part of a concert. When we were in Sydney four years ago, we were fortunate enough to see it performed at the Sydney Opera House.

I'm happy Pizza Boy enjoyed his day at the Symphony. Isn't it wonderful that he can pick out all of the instruments also! Good for him!

nice!

Lisa, could you please tell me about next year's? Koolaid and I have been wanting to bring Oliver to a classical concert. He loves music.

also, so great to see Nanette :)
