Karry asked me for my recipe. I like dropped dumplings and I do it easy and use Bisquick.

Split Chicken breast
Bisquick - follow box directions for dumplings
Milk
Salt
Sweet peas canned or frozen (we like canned with pearl onions) optional veggie side dish

I put split breast (with bone and skin still attached) in dutch over or large covered pot, cover with salted water. Boil until chicken is done, about 40 minutes, depending on thickness of breasts. I usually take out the fattest breast and cut into it to “testâ€Â. Remove breasts from pot, cover and set aside. I follow the directions on the Bisquick box for dumpling. For just Leatherneck and me I use 2 cups of Bisquick mixed with 2/3 cups of milk. Gently mix then drop by heaping tablespoon full into boiling broth. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes uncovered then cover and simmer an additional 10 minutes. This amount of dough makes about 4 or 5 big dumplings. Cook peas. While dumplings are cooking I remove skin and bones from chicken. We ladle dumplings along with hot broth over our chicken and serve with sweet peas which we mix all together. Good eating :)

This is so funny, because after I read your post Denise....I made chicken and dumplings today! The power of suggestion :lol

I have it almost done now. I'm going to make the dumplings but my dumpling recipe is made with butter, flour, egg and milk.

Funny about the peas too...everyone has there little ways for eating different foods..

My DH has to have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with chili...Don't ask me why? But he says it goes together....

My mother used to make a thick chicken soup with homemade noodles, then we would eat this over mashed potatoes...YIKES, the carbs. But all that Polish in her, everything made with butter, etc.....

I guess we all have different tastes...

Oh, and I made a 4-layer chocolate dessert too...see you have me in cooking mode today, Denise! It's all your fault!! :lol

My Mom makes the best rolled dumplings from scratch too Donna....we called them "Chicken Potpie". I love this dish but we like the dropped dumplings better. Then there is my SIL Kyle who is the only one in the family who hates chicken and dumplings..he calls them soggy bread water :lol :lol

Your right Patty, we all have certain sides that we just HAVE to have with certain dishes. Like meat loaf...I just HAVE to have stewed tomatoes with mine. Leatherneck MUST have corn with fried chicken and mashers.

FYI My Mom's method is considered Pennsylvania Dutch style Chicken Pot Pie.

I am also one of those people who don't like dumplings. Wet bread! Yikes!

You guys are killing me with this talk of yummy food. I made Chicken Stew topped with biscuits just the other day - chicken in chicken cream gravy with peas, carrots and corn and topped with easy rolled biscuits. It was a big hit with dh and dd.

Just reading about the Chicken and Dumplings and the Chocolate dessert makes me want to get back in the kitchen!

If your drop your dumplings onto the chicken instead of putting them into the liquid you are cooking them in, they will steam and come out light and fluffy. If they are dropped into the liquid, they will become "wet biscuits."
