Carnival's Old vs. New Ships

Larger Mega/Newer ships for me. Been on 3 Fantasy class ships (My first 3 cruises) then I was on the Grandeur of the Seas, much larger I'd say, and even pretty new to Royal Caribbean. And LOVED it. Yes it was large, but I had no problem making new friends, and finding them again and again throughout the cruise. I learned my way around the ship very quickly, everything was easy to get to for me. Hung out with the new friends every day. Then I was on both the Carnival Victory and Triumph. Again, those too, are large ships and I LOVED them. Met friends on both cruises and didn't have a problem finding them over and over throughout the cruise. Other reasons that I think I saw mentioned of why people don't like larger ships, is because they don't get a chance to explore everything on board. But I agree with the one person who said almost the opposite, she likes to explore everything on the larger ships. I'm with her on that. I didn't have a problem exploring all the things I wanted to. See I don't go on cruises to work out or lift weights, or really to even go the Nautical Spa. So I don't spend anytime at those places. If I feel like going up to check the place out then I go up there just to see it, not to use it. The only time I was disappointed that I didn't get out and see more of the ship. Was my very first cruise. But, as said it was my first cruise and I was pretty young at the time and it was just my sister and I with our dad. We didn't do much. So that was our own fault. But on the otherhand, it wasn't all our fault. We were on the ship like 2 days and we were then in a hurricane, which took out almost all of the crew and passengers. So of course we couldn't go out and explore the ship. And I was sad because I didn't know when I'd get to go on another cruise. But we got a discount on a "future cruise" because of the hurricane, so we ended up going back the next year on another "Fantasy-class ship" and I brought a friend and we had a much better time, exploring the ship and seeing all the things we wanted to.

Although I prefer Newer/Larger ships and have been on 3, I will be going on another Fantasy class ship in the fall. But that's okay its only a 4 day cruise so not much time to explore anyway. So the shorter the cruise the smaller the ship is better I guess. Except nobody will ever get me on an older Holiday class ship. Wow this is long, sorry.
Just add me to the "New Ships" list :grin Thanks...

Geez, Wife and I have only been on one cruise so far [but liked it so much we've already got two more booked] and thought as long as there was a Lido deck and buffet available you could just plunk yourself down and have a chat!

Met an old Navy salt 'Bill' who takes his wife and a different grandchild on a cruise each year. Met Lonnie and Doris from Kansas, another old Navy salt who's pretty happy inland now and knew some great jokes. Met Sandy who's friend had died shortly before the cruise and we shared memories of our own family members.

So I guess if you want to meet n' greet you will and if you don't, you won't.

But if you're on Victory, Aug 19th to Halifax and see a couple with matching Tillies on say Hi to Dick and Jan!

Just a guess, but I suspect it will be a moot point soon -- the smaller ships seem to be the older ships, which will be retired as the bigger, newer ships take their places. We're booked on the Holiday in October and looking forward to it. We also looking at the twice-bigger Caribbean Princess for next October, because we can get a balcony cabin for the same per-night price on it. Economy of scale? Don't know, but I'll be Carnival (and the rest of the cruise industry) has its own opinion.
