Just wondering if anyone has sailed on the Celebration lately? We have a group cruise leaving from Jacksonville in April 2005 for Key West and Nassau. Will appreciate any infor on this ship and destinations.

Thanks!!!!

Did Western Carrib in March so destinations are different but crew was great and ship gets consistently rated in top three of the fleet in spite of being one of the oldest.

Enjoy.

Our family of 5 was on in March, did the 5 day west. carib itinerary and I posted a review here on this board (listed under "Penny"). We had a great time, ship was in mostly fine shape (except gym area not so fabulous) staff on board were extraordinary (especially dining staff) and food was really very good in the dining room, ok in the buffet, with great pizza & ice cream. The decor is just a tad bit outdated and we had a piece of tile off in the bathroom and problems initially getting toilet to flush, but really very small issues that caused no problems in the long run. Overall, we had a really terrific time! Hope you do also.

Me and a group of 28 of my friends are going on this same cruise in January for my birthday. This will be my first cruise and I cant wait. And one of the best things about it is it leaves from right here in Jax. Anyone having any suggestions about Nassau. Any suggestions about clubs in the area around the port in Nassau.

I surprised my 71 year old step dad, my husband and 12 year old son with a cruise. We leave next Saturday, August 14th-19th out of Galveston on the Carnival Celebration on our way to Cozumel and Calico/Playa Del Carmen. I know for sure we are heading to Paradise Beach in Cozumel due to all of the great post that I have read about this free and fun beach. I am not paying for any of the ship's excursions. It is cheaper for us to do our own and be on our own time. ~Bon Voyage~

Our second carnival cruise will be on the Celebration on 1/15/05, glad to see some good ship reviews. Being an older ship I'm not too worried about outdated decor, being a tad bit outdated myself... sorry couldn't resist that one.

I'll be on this cruise as well. Me and 33 of my friends are going for mine and another friends birthdays. It will be our first cruise and we cant wait.

The Celebration should be sold off from Carnival or taken out to the gulf and sunk. It is small, Ugly, Dirty, and has engine problems(heavy vibrations). Not to mention that it doesn't have an Atrium which every other ship is focused around. I took a trip on it a few years back and was board silly. I would not recommend sailing on any of the Celebration-Class ships. Pay the extra few bucks and upgrade.

I was on the Celebration when it had vibration problems. It affected those in the aft of the ship pretty badly.
But it has been renovated since then and at no time was I ever bored silly.
The young people ( college age ) had more fun on this ship and everyone else did too.
Camp Carnival was looked forward to by every youngester on board the ship.

I am looking forward to renewing my friendship with this grand lady of the seas.
I hope to meet some of you who have posted.

I'm hoping you'll respond to my question. (Thanks for your review! I'm taking this cruise on 9/11 with another couple who are first-timers, so your review has been very helpful.)

I need some Playa del Carmen help. (I'd like to appear that I have it all together as "Tour Guide Barbie" to our friends!) We are planning on spending the day at the public beach there. I gather from other posts that it's a $10 cab fare. Do you just tell the driver to take you "downtown?" Is 5th Ave easy to find (for shopping) and is the beach easy to find from there? You mention that you rented a table and chairs--is it easy to find where to rent these from--are there loungers/umbrellas to rent, as well? Also, the topless thing may offend our friends, as well as my 5-yr-old--is it really prevalant?

Thanks for your help.
Kimberly

We were at three beaches on Cozumel and at Playa del Carmen. There was at least one woman topless on each of the beaches.

hey Burley!! You will have so much fun on the celebration!! I will be glad to help, I am a planner and Tour Guide Barbie all the way so I understand! OK, to answer your questions- when you get off the ship in Calica, there is a bunch of venders lined up selling stuff, go all the way to the end of them and you can see a bunch of taxis parked there. there is a little booth that has prices listed of the places you can go to, that is where we told her we wanted to go to Playa de Carmen, I tried to ask her if they drop us off downtown near 5th street? but she had no clue what I said-her answer was "Playa del Carmen!" so off we went!! all 4 of us for 10.00 total. He went down this one way street, pulled into a circle drive where other people were being let off too. you can see all the shops right there, on the right side of the street is where everything looks nice and new,go there. We had no idea where to go, so we asked where the beach was and they only pointed! the middle of the shops was 5th ave, we finally saw sign. just keep headed straight through till ya see the beautiful blue water!! there are peopl haggling you about everything, just ignore them and keep going, unless you wanna stop !! at the end of the road is Senor Frogs on the right, we went to the left to the public beach area. we walked down the beach a little bit to a restaraunt area. they had chairs and umbrellas there, somebody just came up not long after we just walked up and we rented the table and chairs and umbrella for 10.00 total. there are more as go down the beach, just ask somebody are they for rent ? or free maybe!! ya never know! I would say there were about 6-7 girls topless total. they weren't all together in a group. there were like 4 over here, then we saw 1 later further down later, etc.. sometimes they were laying on their stomachs so you couldn't see much, but then were times they were sitting up all pretty and sunbathing for the world to see!! The video we shot, ( how embarressing is that to admit, but we were shocked to see that for the first time so my husband had to video her for his single best friend back home to see!) She was walking from the beach into the water. we did notice there were some who were only topless in the water and you can't really tell . but if you had kids you might keep going until you didn't see any, not to say the tops won't come off later after you are already there, but when you have kids you do need to consider these things. Our husbands were definitley ok with it, us girls were kinda irked, it is hard not to stare when they come up right there next to you, then you worry about do you look like you are trying not to stare. we had just never been in that situation before!! Hey who knows, I am still young, 25 and my girls look quite nice if I do say so myself, a few more margaritas,AND if our best friends who I have known all my life had not been there with us, I would have just joined in and let the girls shine!! hey, what happens in mexico stays in mexico, right?
Ya'll have a wonderful cruise, eat lots of pizza for us, it is so good!! Happy Cruisin'!

Thank you randykaye! You answered all my questions expertly, and I appreciate your time. At least I'll be able to let our friends know what to expect with the topless issue, and I'll be able to stay alert and hopefully steer my son clear of it all. I feel much better about Calica after corresponding with you--again, thanks so much! (By the way, if the Kelly Method rings true, our friends will be in one of the cabins you or your friends were in, and we're one door down. This will be our first inside cabin, and first time on that end of the ship. Hopefully, it'll all be good--would prefer the opposite end as it's closer to Camp Carnival, but my husband says at least this way I'll walk off more of all that pizza and dessert I'm going to be uncharacteristicly eating!)

Burley-- I forgot to ask did you see our cruise pics here posted in the photo gallery? there is some pics of the ship and the catamaran we went on the the beach in Playa! If ya'll end up our room you can see what that will look like!! It is called Carnival Celebration 7-26-04!You can see how much we had!
Have fun!!
