I've always booked a cabin sandwiched between other passenger decks to avoid hearing noise from the casino, pool area, disco, etc.  I have heard that noises from these areas can sometimes be heard in your cabin.  I've also heard that you can sometimes smell the smoke from the casino if your room is right below or above it.
