Cabin noise?

On the Glory class ships, will the casino be heard in the cabins directly above (8A)?

Hmm, I was right under the casino on the Legend and never heard a thing. On the Voictyr was on top of a lounge..again nothing.

We were in cabin 6312 ( 8A ) on the Glory just above the casino. We could hear the slot machine noise when the casino was open. We either kept the tv on low, sat on the balcony until early am, or stayed out late! But you could clearly hear the sounds of the machines when it was quiet.

I've always booked a cabin sandwiched between other passenger decks to avoid hearing noise from the casino, pool area, disco, etc. I have heard that noises from these areas can sometimes be heard in your cabin. I've also heard that you can sometimes smell the smoke from the casino if your room is right below or above it.

We are on that same deck(8A) on the Glory for 11/05 but further back over one of the nite spots (cabin6467). I guess I better bring my earplugs or bone up on the latest dance craze(like that would do me any good). Thats why I always play craps when in the casino, out of consideration to my fellow cruisers one deck up (sure).

Sailed on Carnival Miracle 31st July. We were on the Riviera Deck, cabins 1182 and 1186 and we had noise from the crew deck at 3am one morning but it was soon stopped. Carnival were really good with the way it was dealt with.

Don't know about the casino but I have been right below the lido deck and never had a problem with noise from the Band, people being loud, etc. Also have been right below the dance club with no problems.

Yes-I was surprised to hear so much noise from the slots being ABOVE the casino. I thought it more likely to hear the noise being below it.

Pamurchu,
You say you stayed on the balcony until the AM. Was this because you couldn't get to sleep because of the noise below or were you just up enjoying? What time does the casino close? The night clubs must be even noisier than the casino. Is it quieter in the pull down beds than it is on a bed directly on the floor, or does the noise permeate the entire room?
Its amazing that some posters whose rooms were directly above nite-spots say they didn't hear anything while others were disturbed to the extent you were. Is this attributable to the differences in hearing or the differences in ships, or a combination of both? Do they get many requests to change rooms because of loud noise? For that matter do people sometimes request a change of rooms because the guests next door are too noisy? I remember living in an apartment and peace and quiet is one of the blessings of home ownership. I would never want to be a complainer but seven nights without sleep?

Jeesh! I didn't complain--I did what I thought was appropriate because the noise did bother me, but not my husband or son. I didn't complain to the steward, didn't ask for a room change, didn't ask for money back , didn't ask for credit on my sign and sale card--just tried to make the best of it by enjoying the balcony and the nightlife. My answer to the OP was to the the question,"On the Glory class ships, will the casino be heard in the cabins directly above (8A)?"
All I tried to do was answer honestly. Yes--even hubby and son heard the slots when they were awake. However, they are sound sleepers and it didn't bother them. I didn't expect a diatribe about "complainers" and "apartments" and "noisy neighbors" and such. Take a chill pill! Cruising is all good!

I'm sorry, pamurchu, but I think public defender was asking honest questions. I've seen a lot of his posts, and I really think he's just asking for information to make sure he gets the most out of his cruise experience.

I could be wrong, but until I read your most recent post, it didn't even occur to me that he was trying to flame you.

I believe Lizardstew is correct. PD is going on his first cruise and he has a lot of questions. Mention the Glory in any post and you are sure to get a question from him about it.

Thank you for discerning my sincere quest for information rather than an effort to criticize anyone. Now that I have been vindicated can anyone take a shot at my questions? Thanks

I wish I could help you, PD. The only two experiences I've ever had with excessive noise don't fall into any of the categorys about which you inquired. I can tell you this, though. 1) Don't get conntecting cabins unless you know the people on the other side of the door and 2) Avoid getting a cabin right by the main elevator.

Good luck in getting answers to your questions.

PD -

I think noise is a function of your ability to sleep. I have seen little kids fall asleep on a stage coach (which was VERY bumpy and moving at a good clip). How, I don't know (and I was there). On the other hand, I was half asleep on time on a couch, and the movement of someone turning their head was enough to wake me up.

So how much the noise will bother you is an unknown. I will not be on the Glory until after you. Also, I am one deck higher, so I will only have cabins above and below me.

If you are truely worried about it, buy one of those radios that plays either white noise or soft music or see if you can upgrade to the next higher deck. I think the price difference is only about $60 per person.

Or....do what we did on our last cruise when there was a constant ticking coming from somewhere in the ceiling....go to the gift shop and get some ear plugs! :)

I thought ear plugs might wind up being the answer. Does using them increase the likelyhood of motion sickness?
After reading the numerous posts on the subject I purchased 40 tablets of Bonine. If they work they're so much cheaper than the other options mentioned(except of course the running outdoors and looking at the sky suggestion).

I didn't get any motion sickness while using the ear plugs, but I've never experienced any sort of motion sickness on a ship. So, I might not be the best person to talk to about this...sorry! I do recommend visiting a pharmacy beforehand and purchasing some ear plugs...the ones you get onboard are cheap foam ones and, while they do the trick, they're not the most comfortable. I have some that I bought at a local pharmacy here, and they're made of a nicer foam that conforms to your ear a little better. And, they were only about $4 for 5 pair.

I have heard that it's best to start taking the Bonine about 24 hours prior to boarding so that it has time to get into your system....just in case you haven't heard that tip yet. :) I've also heard that Bonine can make you drowsy, so be prepared for that.

I have super hearing and can hear the faintest sounds on the cruise ships (and everywhere). I use the ear plugs and never hear loud peple in the halls, stomping above or anything. It's worth it to have a peaceful sleep. Then you don't have to worry about where your cabin is since no matter where your cabin is located there could be unforseen noises like...kids next door, arguing couples...............

I have a tendency toward seasickness and the earplugs have never seemed to increase that. I always bring mine but really haven't needed them much because the noise was minor.
