We will be visiting Cococay, Nassau, and Key West on our cruise. Is it best (as far as convenience, time, money) to book excursions through RC or should we just do it when we get to the port on our own? Any suggestions for these ports? We are traveling with 2 kids--ages 6 & 3--and we are all first time cruisers! Thanks!!

Pick up a Fodor's Guide for the Bahamas at any bookstore. That will give you lots of info on the available excursions and how to contact the tour operators directly. Good idea to book directly with the tour operator. The ship marks the trips up substantially.

Happy Cruising,

Michael

Booking through RCCL may be higher, but it's worth it to have the guarantee that you'll be returned to the ship in time for departure.
Suggestions for Key West....bicyle tour of island or kayaking are both excellent
Suggestions for Nassau...NOT glass bottom boat

There is something to be said for (as first timers) relying on the ship's excursions. That way you are guaranteed to get back to the ship in time for departure - just in case. In Nassau I've done the Atlantis tour. I forget the exact name but it was through RCCL and started with a brief tour by water around Paradise Island (you're on a small ferry and on the way to Atlantis resort they give you a little tour). Once at Atlantis you walk around and see the sites but the best part (which your kids I bet would love) is the tour of "The Dig" which is a HUGE aquarium with sharks, stingrays, etc. all around. Very cool for kids. It's a lot of walking but if your kids like seeing fish up close and personal it might be fun for them.

Hope that helps!
