Hey - we are scheduled for 6/3/05 Alaskan cruisetour on Statendam.  We have a verandah balcony toward the back of the ship.  Is it a good thing to basically stay on your own balcony or go on deck to be sure we are not missing anything?  I want to use the balcony as much as possible.  And what is this about being at the back of the ship?  Not that I can change it at this point - but is this a bad thing??  When do I know when to go up on deck versus stay on my own private island??  Also what about roughness of seas? I know during the inside passage - it is non-existant - but what about when we get into the Gulf of Alaska?  Any suggestions??  Our first cruise to Alaska and a balcony!!  Always had interior cabin - couldn't stand that.   Thanks for any input
