I just found out that my nephew was diagnosed with Autism. Can anyone suggest a good web site for information?

Sage how old is your nephew? I will get some links for you tonight from my daughter who is very well connected.

The one thing we have learned through this process is there is help, it isn't hopeless , these children are brilliant and can learn and function well with lots of intense teaching by trained professionals. It is a long process but not without huge strides made of late for my grandson.

Here is one link to the newest study. My daughter is part of that study.

I'll get some more links later tonight.

BostonJ,

Thanks so much for the wonderful links. My nephew is almost 19 months. It's a totally new field for me, and there is so much stuff out there that it is hard to know where to turn. Thanks again so much for your help.

Jenny McCarthy has a wonderful book, can't think of title, but perhaps you can "Google" it.

Debbie McCarthy's book is called Louder than Words. Enter the names in any search engine and you will get lots of sites pop up.

Good luck and prayers for your young nephew and his family as they begin their own journey!

Thank you everyone for your most appreciated help and prayers. I'm headed to the bookstore now.

Here are a few more links Sage. Please feel free to PM me if you would like to I'll be happy to talk to you about our experiences.

A few recent statistics I can share with you. The numbers are staggering.

1 out of every 150 children in the US has autism
A new diagnosis of Autism is made nearly every 20 minutes in the US
Autism strikes boys more than girls. Roughly a 4 to 1 ratio. i.e. about 1 out of every 94 boys are diagnosed
Early Intervention is key! The doctors have told my daughter that the ages of 2 - 8 are key in making progress in developmental disorders associated with this disease.

Sage, please know that I send my prayers too. Wishing them success in finding the right help. I hear that can be a daunting process.

So sorry to hear this Sage. I will be praying for the whole family as they deal with this.

My thoughts and prayers will be with Scotty's parents. Please let us know how he, and they, do.

Thank you everyone for your prayers and concerns. Thanks to a mutal friend, I have an appointment with a Autism specialist at the University of Miami to do even more testing and find out about starting a program. I understand that quick and early response is crucial. There is so much to learn. My prayers also go out to all of you who deal with this in your families.
