And one more day

One more Dr visit.

I posted the other day that I had gone to the Dr for an infection in my legs. I have a condition called Necrobiosis lipidocea diabetacorum. It is rare, 1/3 if 1% of diabetics get it, and so of course I did. It causes fat cells to retain sugar in the blood and make wart like bumps on the legs. He said usually it only occurs in people whose blood sugar is out of control, so he has no ieda why I have it. And it affects the skin, too, making it discolored. Altogether not a nice thing. Occasionally the whole leg becomes infected, and mine both are. And very painful! Fells kind of like a sunburn, with sharp, bee sting like pains now and then.

The Dr gave me antibiotics for it, l am also running a mild fever. There was a spot on my left leg, behind my calf just out of sight. My knees won't bend that way to look at it. But the spot was really sore, so I put a bandage on it and when I took it off it was plain that it was infected. A rather large spot, About 2 inches across. I don't have any idea what that was from.

So, back to the Dr today for more antibiotics. He gave me one I have never taken, Clindamycin. Silly me, I read the cautions that come with the RX. The one that says this a very powerful infection fighting drug and has been know to infrequently cause abdominal problems, pain, bleeding, diahreah, RARELY FATAL, that can occur up to 6 weeks after stopping the medicine. The last asthma inhaler he gave me said "caution, has been known to cause death in asthmatics." Why do I read those things??????

Anyway, long story short, the Dr was sick and on his way home and not in a mood to argue with me as usual. He told me to get to a wound care specialist or else. I asked him could I wait until I saw if the new med worked? His reply was only if you want to end up losing your leg. I have an appt tomorrow.

I have my fingers crossed that you can find a solution and relief. Sometimes life just isn't fair!

Take care of yourself. Diabetes is nothing to mess with. I hope one of these days you get to enjoy your retirement pain-free.

Best wishes, Connie.

Has anyone ever discussed hyperbaric treatments with you? HBO isn't simply for "the bends" - it's successfully used on diabetics for wound treatment among other things.

Definitely go to that Apppointment tomorrow.

You don;t want to lose a leg!!

Will be praying for you.

Damn, Connie! Sorry to hear you are going through this. I know you will let us know how your appt. goes tomorrow. You will be in my prayers tonight.

This place does do hyperbaric treatmenst. My Dad had those , but he waited too long and it was not successful.

My 24 year old supply clerk has diabetes and also deals with this same skin condition. She sees a dermatologist for it. Once you get the initial infection cleared up, perhaps that might be someone you should consult for treatment. She uses a topical ointment on her legs that seems to keep it in check.

Listen to the doctors - - they know best. Like I tell my mil - - if you aren't going to listen to them - - then don't waist your time going.

Please be sure to keep that doctor's appointment, Connie, and I hope successful treatment can be found for you.

Let us know how everything turns out. Pucci sends some special woofs.

Oh, yeah, the doc scared me enough to keep the appt.

Cortisone cream helps with my legs. I have had this for about 5 years, and this is only the second time this has happened, so I guess that is not too bad. It is the first time with an open infection, tho.
