A very different countdown--22 days to go...

I wonder how many others who cruise around this time feel the same way...
I am only 22 days from my next cruise--3 weeks from tomorrow...
Usually when this close, I've got incredible anxiety...I just can't wait to go...I get really obsessed with final preparartions...I would pretty much know it's three straight weeks of work, then, POW!--we're off...

But, because we're cruising right after New Years, the whole thing is eerily different...
I am in no hurry to get to the sail date...
I'm not working all that much between now and then (both because of the two holiday days off work plus that I've got four extra vacation days to burn before the end of the year--"use 'em or lose 'em"...
We've also got our older daughter, who now lives and works four hours away up in Merced, coming home for a week (She works at a University, so, with the school on winter break, it's a good time to get away)...

My wife is also not wishing the time to go that fast, she works for a school district and gets three weeks off, so, she'd like to really enjoy those first two weeks before the cruise week...
We usually book tours and excursions well in advance, but, for this one, I can't even get her to sit down and read the tour descriptions...

I know when it comes to our next cruise, in July, it will be a whole different story...Both of us will be working right up to the day (or, in her case, day before) we fly out (July 1)....but this one is just "different"...

How many others cruising around this time feel the same way?

Steve, were the same way. It is so crazy around here over Christmas we usually do not book the next cruise until February. It takes that long for things to usually settle down again. We found the only holiday to cruise this time of year is Thanksgiving but at some point after the kid is gone we would like to sail on New Year's just to say we have. Sailed once the two weeks prior to Christmas and it was a disaster, did not enjoy it that much and wouldn't do it again....

We sail four weeks from today - CRAZY! When I think of all I have to do in the now-less-than-two-weeks (Thanks for the reminder Donna-DSW) it boggles my mind... then throw in the fact that it will then be two weeks till we leave - Yowza!!

I must admit, knowing that we were cruising so close after Christmas made me do much less decorating and shopping.

Steve - We are cruising at the end of January and I am not looking for the time to fly by either - too much going on here that I want to enjoy! I know that when we get onboard I will be ready for the relaxation!

In previous years we have cruised right after Thanksgiving and I found that that really affected my holiday spirit so now I don't book a cruise during the holidays.

I hope you enjoy every moment before your cruise.

Meg

We've sailed many times right after NYE and I personally Love it. It makes Christmas and NYE calmer and more enjoyable for me when I know I am leaving town right after. When I was working I always had two weeks off during those two holidays, so I had plenty of time to get ready for our cruise.

I'd give anything to be going this year...but will have to wait until Jan 3rd of next year. :D

We used to cruise over the holidays -- but it was just too hectic -- having to fly out late the evening of our last work day. Then flying home late in the day we got off the ship and then having to go to work the next day.

So now we stay home -- decorate everything early and enjoy the holiday without any hassle.
