A suitcase full of alcohol and a blender to boot

Any regulations against bringing a suitcase filled with alcohol
and a portable blender for some refreshing smoothies?

Was seriously thinking of bringing this aboard.

All of the official docs say you CANNOT bring your own alcohol & anything other than wine will be confiscated & returned the last day.

At least on some lines this "rule" is honored more in the breach than in the adherence.

If you look at the cruise ticket it says they have the right to restrict the bringing of alcohol aboard. I just got back from the Majesty of the Seas and I packed two big plastic flasks of hard liquor and a 2 liter of Sprite without any problem.

Most of the time - if you give the luggage to the porter at the ship - there is no problem. If you try to take it on yourself - they will take it.

Haven't taken a whole suitcase as stated, but have taken a couple of bottles.

I've brought a bottle or two in my checked bags with no problem. Bringing the whole bar? Hmmm. They will probably take it all. Two reasons. First of all the cruise line wants you to drink THEIR booze. Secondly it is a safety issue. The cruise line wants to be able to "cut off" someone who has been determined to be too intoxicated. After all they just lost a man OVERBOARD on Carnival's Fascination last Friday. With all due respect, I am sure many of us wonder how much he'd had to drink. Again, it is not against the law to bring booze on board, just against cruise line policy.

Happy Cruising,

Michael

Does anyone know the circumstances of the Carnival tragedy? What an awful thing! I hadn't heard anything about that.

Here's the original posting.

MIAMI -- A passenger on a Carnival cruise ship, Fascination, is suspected to have fallen overboard about 14 miles southeast of Key Biscayne and has not yet been found.

The man was last seen around 3:30 a.m. Friday. He was reported missing shortly after 7 a.m. when his traveling companion told crewmembers that she could not locate him.

Crewmembers said they tried paging the guest and searched the ship several times.

The ship docked at the Port of Miami and officials required all disembarking passengers to swipe their electronic identification cards as they exited the ship to make sure the missing man did not exit.

Fascination officials said the man was not located and was presumed to have gone overboard. The U.S. Coast Guard continued to search the area where the ship was when the man was last seen on board.

The Fascination was returning from a four-day cruise to Cozumel, Mexico.

The ship was scheduled to leave Friday afternoon on a three-day Bahamas cruise.

---------------
Further postings told us that the man was from Virginia Beach, VA and that the Coast Guard called off the search on Saturday afternoon.

I agree with the others here: The cruise ship won't mind a bottle or two, but they're probably going to notice (and confiscate) a whole suitcase full.

How about this Ron

Get a pair of white deck sneakers , blue shorts and a red golf shirt and you could easily pay for your cruise.........although there is a possibility RCL may notice this!!!

I doubt that anyone would notice this in checked luggage. I know of several friends that did this and had no problem. For the prices and weak drinks that cruiseline have for drinks, go ahead and enjoy.

What you do in your cabin is your business...just as long as you are not bothering anyone else. Do not take your smoothies anywhere but in your cabin. Better yet, since you are on RCI, go to the booze shop onboard as soon as the ship sails and get all the bottles you want. You will only have to bring the blender and the mixers. Loads of pax enjoy thier smoothies, etc. in thier cabins and on their verandas.

Have a ball and don't fall off the veranda!!!

You know, I was sort of being sarcastic with planning
to bring an entire suitcase of liquor aboard -- but I do plan
to bring enough.

I am sure there are some that look down on the practice, but
I look at it this way -- RCCL promotes such actions for being
so greedy with their liquor prices.

You pay good money to go on a cruise only to get zonked with
liquor prices that aren't even realistic. This is what I hate about
RCCL. They get you aboard their ships and hawk you with extras
that are exhorbitantly expensive.

In a perfect world RCCL would be more fair with their liquor pricing.
It would actually promote people to spend more and drink more. I
think the ship would make more of a profit selling cheaply priced
drinks rather than charging 2-3 times more their worth.

HI RON!!!

You do not have to rationalize your choice of bringing your own supplies onboard. Like I said...as long as you behave yourself and do not offend anyone else. Keep your libations in your cabin...it is a giant NO NO to take it up on deck. Some pax like to have cocktails, etc. at all times of the day in their cabin and on their veranda. You are perfectly entitled to do so...there is nothing in your RCI cruise contract that says you are forbidden from doing so.

A lot of pax have personal tastes that can not be accommadated by RCI. I happen to like certain wines and spirits that are not available on RCI so I take whatever is necessary along with me to enhance my cruise experience. If I happen to invite guests to my cabin for pre dinner cocktails I will mix them myself and serve them myself...this is my perogative and it certainly is no one else's business as long as everyone behaves and do not cause any disturbance. To me it is a matter of good manners and proper decorum.

You will find many folks on these threads who think it is horrendous to bring booze onboard. They are the same folks who would readily accept an invitation from me for a drink in my cabin. I agree with you...the lines are making it very difficult to enjoy the cruise experience without being set upon by the greed factor.

Forget the blender!

We are planning on taking our wonderful thunderstick (the handheld blender) with us!!

That thing is the bomb and clean up is a breeze!! Just mix booze and ice, blend in the glass and enjoy!!!!!

Who makes this thunderstick?

If it's that good at crushing ice and making smoothies
I'll order one for myself.

More information please!

Are you really trying to make us believe the booze prices on other ships, particularly Carnival, are "more reasonable" than on RCCL? THAT I will never believe.

I'd like to hear more about the Thunderstick :) - is it as powerful as advertised? Can it make smoothies and slushes?

Thanks! Nancy
