Well all you HAL fans up here in the Pacific SW (or NW if you are State side) Here's a chance to see Seattle and the thriving little town of Port Alberni on Vancouver Island.

Anybody care to join the adventure. Pretty good rates for a quickie.

Sounds nice.

But we would spend more time in hotels getting there and getting home than on the cruise.

Enjoy your quicky cruise.

Ansterdam is a lovely ship.

REally looking forward to it..

Wondering about HAL baggage tag program. Can you get "REAL ONES" or do they make you print them yourself or get them at the pier. This is the Amsterdam's first call of their Vancouver Season and it is the only ship in port that day but I still expect a few glitches.

You have to either print them yourself or use the ones at the pier.

HAL no longer sends out luggage tags or documents.

Figured that. Thanks

Any secrets about the ship ?? That you can share.

HAL ships really do not have secrets.

Some people like the Happy Hour -- 4 - 5 PM in the Crow's Nest and Ocean Bar. You buy one drink and get the next drink for $1 -- has to be the same type of drink. It is only for drinks that cost up to $6.95 but does not include premium alcohol.

HAL has started a new drink package. It is $39.95 plus a 15% gratuity ($5.99) = $45.94 per day. There is a limit of 15 drinks per day -- no drinks over $
7. It can not be used in the Explorations Cafe. And each person in the cabin over 21 must buy the drink package. And you can not buy premium alcohol. And it covers just the house wines.

We like to sit in the Crow's Nest for the views.

Hey if you make it I will buy you a case of "TAB" for each day. Well that's if they still make it.

HAL ships really do not have secrets.

I think every ship has a secret.. It's just that some of us don't like giving them away. Getting a drink for under $6.95 might even be a secret .
One of my favorite secrets on a ship I used to sail was that the middle elevator didn't go to the top. lol

I don't consider that a secret. Many of HAL ships do not have the middle or aft elevator go to the top. That is just the way they have been constructed.

S class ships don't even have a middle elevator.

R class ships like the Amsterdam do have the middle elevator.

Vista class ships middle and aft elevators do not go to the top.

Signature class ships -- front and middle elevators go to the top -- but you can't get from the Silk Den/Tamarind to the Crow's nest without going down one deck.

I haven't been on the Prinsendam so I don't know anything about their elevators.

One interesting thing -- on the R class ships -- you can not go from the front of the ship to the lower level of the dining room on the Lower Promenade Deck. The kitchen prevents you from doing this. You have to take either the forward or middle elevators either up or down a deck -- walk to the aft and then take the elevators either up or down. Or you can use the stairs.

We did not care for the show times -- 7 and 9 PM.

As my guide to all things HAL... What class is the Amsterdam. I've been on the Ooster/Zaandam and the Volendam..

Ansterdam is an R class ship -- midsize.

S class ships: Statendam, Maasdam, Ryndam and Volendam -- smallest original HAL ships.

R class ships: Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Zaandam and Volendam.

Vista class ships: Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Westerdam and Noordam

Signature class ships: Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam

The Prinsendam is in a class of herself as she is the smallest ship -- but originally built for HAL -- she came from the Royal Viking line.

Soon to come in the fall of 2015 -- a Pinnacle class ship -- 99,000 tons.

Hey thanks for that.
I remember drooling over the Royal Viking Sun when it was one of the highest ranking ships afloat. How times change :)

Been on the Zaandam so for sure I know what to expect now. Nice size and layout.

You are welcome.

Years ago we were on an NCL ship called the Westward. NCL only owned her a year or so -- she was originally one of the Royal Viking ships as well -- either the Sun or Star. Now she is the Blackwatch.

Know ALL too well about that illustrious holiday as last year we made sure we scheduled the Alaska cruise after it.
